Steve makes his imprint at Footprint!

A Winchester-based PR professional has been working alongside national radio stars and producers to help inspire young people to work in the media.  Steve Cross, 22, of Footprint Communications was invited to be part of the ‘Blast on Tour' Scheme run by the BBC.  Its aim is to help 13-19 year olds turn their creative ideas into a reality via a series of free creative workshops.Steve Cross

Steve spent a day during Septemebr at the National Theatre on London's South Bank on the ‘Blast Truck', a vehicle which turns into a digital workshop, stage and studio.  Here he helped show more than 50 young people how to make TV news programmes and shared tips on the best ways to get into journalism.  Working alongside BBC Radio 1Xtra's DJ MistaJam, he also demonstrated radio broadcasting skills and recorded ‘demo's' for attendees to take home to show off their newly-acquired skills.

Talking about the experience, Steve commented: "I was fortunate enough to grow up surrounded by people who volunteered their time and knowledge to help me learn the skills that have given me so many opportunities and experiences from working in the media. To be able to spend a day exciting people about employment within the sector, and passing on what I know, I hope I've helped a few young people realise what they can achieve in the same way that I was inspired."

Having recently graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in Multi-Media Journalism whilst continuing to work for the BBC part-time, Steve recently joined Alresford based award-winning Public Relations Agency, Footprint Communications.

Commenting upon his appointment, Vanessa Gardner, Director, said: "We are a small but hard-working team so it's vital that everyone at Footprint contributes in a major way to enhance our unique proposition. Steve's appointment supports our strategy to create a team of specialists in their given area.  Whilst only recently graduated, he brings with him a wealth of experience working within the local media and a great deal of enthusiasm for harnessing his knowledge of journalism to support our wide range of clients in achieving their aims."

Steve continues to work within the media at the weekends, broadcasting on a number of local radio stations as well as freelancing for the BBC, and is well known for his work as a DJ at nightclubs and wine bars across the country.
