Helping the Young Carers Wii-n

June 2009

We've been proud to help out a national charitable festival right on our doorstep this Summer. YoungCarersDonation09

The annual Young Carers Festival brings together around 2,000 young people each year who have caring responsibilities - looking after family members who have a physical, mental or abuse problem.

Jointly run by the YMCA Fairthorne Manor, and the Include Project (a major project of The Children's Society), the festival aims to celebrate the work these special children do, give them a break from their difficult daily lives, and helps to lobby for changes in legislature.

At present, there is no direct help from the Government for the Young Carers, as they are not really recognised as 'carers'. The only help they receive is from locally focused charities who are often short of funds.

This year's festival was especially significant as it marked it's 10th year, and Footprint Communications were more than happy to help out by providing a Nintendo Wii as a prize for the festival's very own radio station, Express FM.

Kyla, a Young Carer from Oxfordshire, won the Nintendo Wii - and will be able to use it to relax and exercise with. Well done Kyla!
